## About

Gives an MCP client search access to the Claude Code Ultimate Guide, a community guide covering agentic workflows, hooks, skills, MCP servers, security, templates and team adoption. Answers can come from the guide's sources and machine-readable indexes instead of model memory. The project site describes 17 public tools.

Runs locally over stdio through the npm package claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp, started with npx. No environment variables are listed, and the project site states there is no first-party telemetry. The guide is an independent community project, not an Anthropic product.

## What it can do

- Search the Claude Code Ultimate Guide from an MCP client
- Read machine-readable references and indexes from the guide
- Look up guidance on hooks, skills, agents and MCP servers
- Find security and team adoption material in the guide

## Example prompts

- "Search the Claude Code guide for how to write a good CLAUDE.md file."
- "What does the guide recommend for hooks that block risky commands?"
- "Find the guide's advice on choosing between an agent and a skill."
- "Look up the guide's security hardening checklist for Claude Code."

## Install

### Claude Code

1. Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport stdio claude-code-ultimate-guide -- npx -y claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp
```

2. Start Claude Code and type `/mcp`. **claude-code-ultimate-guide** should show as connected.

Add `--scope user` to make it available in every project.

### Claude Desktop

1. Open **Settings → Developer → Edit Config**. It opens `claude_desktop_config.json`. Add:

`claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "claude-code-ultimate-guide": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Needs Node.js on your computer. The file lives in `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/` on macOS and `%APPDATA%\Claude\` on Windows.

### Cursor

[Add to Cursor](<https://cursor.com/install-mcp?name=claude-code-ultimate-guide&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoibnB4IiwiYXJncyI6WyIteSIsImNsYXVkZS1jb2RlLXVsdGltYXRlLWd1aWRlLW1jcCJdfQ%3D%3D>) (opens Cursor)

Or add it by hand to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project):

`mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "claude-code-ultimate-guide": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### VS Code

[Install in VS Code](<https://vscode.dev/redirect/mcp/install?name=claude-code-ultimate-guide&config=%7B%22type%22%3A%22stdio%22%2C%22command%22%3A%22npx%22%2C%22args%22%3A%5B%22-y%22%2C%22claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp%22%5D%7D>) (opens VS Code)

Or from a terminal:

```bash
code --add-mcp '{"name":"claude-code-ultimate-guide","type":"stdio","command":"npx","args":["-y","claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"]}'
```

Or commit it to the repo in `.vscode/mcp.json`:

`.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "claude-code-ultimate-guide": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### Devin Desktop

1. Add it to `~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json` (macOS and Linux) or `%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json` (Windows):

`mcp_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "claude-code-ultimate-guide": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf.

### Codex

```bash
codex mcp add claude-code-ultimate-guide -- npx -y claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp
```

Or edit `~/.codex/config.toml` directly:

`config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.claude-code-ultimate-guide]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"]
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### Gemini CLI

```bash
gemini mcp add claude-code-ultimate-guide npx -- -y claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp
```

This adds it to the current project. Add `-s user` to use it everywhere.

### Any client

Most clients that start local servers accept this shape:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "claude-code-ultimate-guide": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "claude-code-ultimate-guide-mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Zed puts servers under `context_servers` in its settings, with the same `command`, `args` and `env` fields.

Needs Node.js on your computer.
