## About

Code Review Graph parses a repository with Tree-sitter into a graph of functions, classes, imports, calls, inheritance and test coverage. It serves compact context over MCP, including blast-radius analysis of which callers, dependents and tests a change touches, so an assistant reads those files instead of scanning the whole project. It supports many languages and notebooks, and updates the graph incrementally through hooks or watch mode.

It runs locally over stdio with Python 3.10+, started with uvx code-review-graph serve. No sign-in or API key is needed, and the graph is built on your machine. The code-review-graph install command detects supported AI coding tools and writes an MCP entry for each. A GitHub Action for risk-scored pull request reviews is also available.

## What it can do

- Build a persistent Tree-sitter graph of a codebase
- Trace blast radius of a change to callers, dependents and tests
- Return a small slice of context shaped to the question
- Update the graph incrementally via hooks or watch mode
- Add custom languages through a languages.toml file
- Configure detected AI coding tools with one install command

## Example prompts

- "Build the code review graph for this project"
- "What is the blast radius of my changes in this branch?"
- "Which tests cover the functions I modified?"
- "Review my latest changes using only the files they affect"

## Install

### Claude Code

1. Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport stdio code-review-graph -- uvx code-review-graph serve
```

2. Start Claude Code and type `/mcp`. **code-review-graph** should show as connected.

Add `--scope user` to make it available in every project.

### Claude Desktop

1. Open **Settings → Developer → Edit Config**. It opens `claude_desktop_config.json`. Add:

`claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "code-review-graph": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "code-review-graph",
        "serve"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Needs uv (Python) on your computer. The file lives in `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/` on macOS and `%APPDATA%\Claude\` on Windows.

### Cursor

[Add to Cursor](<https://cursor.com/install-mcp?name=code-review-graph&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoidXZ4IiwiYXJncyI6WyJjb2RlLXJldmlldy1ncmFwaCIsInNlcnZlIl19>) (opens Cursor)

Or add it by hand to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project):

`mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "code-review-graph": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "code-review-graph",
        "serve"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer.

### VS Code

[Install in VS Code](<https://vscode.dev/redirect/mcp/install?name=code-review-graph&config=%7B%22type%22%3A%22stdio%22%2C%22command%22%3A%22uvx%22%2C%22args%22%3A%5B%22code-review-graph%22%2C%22serve%22%5D%7D>) (opens VS Code)

Or from a terminal:

```bash
code --add-mcp '{"name":"code-review-graph","type":"stdio","command":"uvx","args":["code-review-graph","serve"]}'
```

Or commit it to the repo in `.vscode/mcp.json`:

`.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "code-review-graph": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "code-review-graph",
        "serve"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer.

### Devin Desktop

1. Add it to `~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json` (macOS and Linux) or `%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json` (Windows):

`mcp_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "code-review-graph": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "code-review-graph",
        "serve"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf.

### Codex

```bash
codex mcp add code-review-graph -- uvx code-review-graph serve
```

Or edit `~/.codex/config.toml` directly:

`config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.code-review-graph]
command = "uvx"
args = ["code-review-graph", "serve"]
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer.

### Gemini CLI

```bash
gemini mcp add code-review-graph uvx code-review-graph serve
```

This adds it to the current project. Add `-s user` to use it everywhere.

### Any client

Most clients that start local servers accept this shape:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "code-review-graph": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "code-review-graph",
        "serve"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Zed puts servers under `context_servers` in its settings, with the same `command`, `args` and `env` fields.

Needs uv (Python) on your computer.
