> Work with Firebase projects, Auth, Firestore, Data Connect, Storage, Crashlytics and security rules from your AI assistant.

- Listing: https://mcp.tc/i/firebase
- Connect: this is a local (stdio) server; install it on your machine (see Install). The listing link is a page, not an MCP endpoint.
- Type: local (stdio)
- Auth: no API key needed
- Category: [Cloud & DevOps](https://mcp.tc/c/cloud-devops)
- Vendor: Google (Firebase)
- Verified: yes, mcp.tc checked that this is the official server (https://mcp.tc/verify). It says who runs the server, not that it is safe.

- Package: npm `firebase-tools`

## About

The official Firebase MCP server gives AI development tools Firebase-specific capabilities. It works with your Firebase projects and app codebase, covering areas such as Auth, Firestore, Data Connect, Storage, Crashlytics and security rules.

It ships inside the Firebase CLI (firebase-tools) and runs locally over stdio with npx. It uses the credentials from your firebase login, so no separate API key is needed. Node.js and npm are required.

## What it can do

- Manage and inspect Firebase projects and apps
- Work with Auth, Firestore and Storage
- Use Data Connect from your assistant
- Review Crashlytics data
- Work with Firebase security rules
- Run from the Firebase CLI with existing login credentials

## Example prompts

- "List my Firebase projects and show the apps in the current one."
- "Review my Firestore security rules and point out risky access."
- "Show recent Crashlytics issues for my Android app."
- "Help me set up Firebase Auth in this codebase."

## Install

### Claude Code

1. Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport stdio firebase -- npx -y firebase-tools@latest mcp
```

2. Start Claude Code and type `/mcp`. **firebase** should show as connected.

Add `--scope user` to make it available in every project.

### Claude Desktop

1. Open **Settings → Developer → Edit Config**. It opens `claude_desktop_config.json`. Add:

`claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "firebase": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "firebase-tools@latest",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.

Needs Node.js on your computer. The file lives in `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/` on macOS and `%APPDATA%\Claude\` on Windows.

### Cursor

[Add to Cursor](<https://cursor.com/install-mcp?name=firebase&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoibnB4IiwiYXJncyI6WyIteSIsImZpcmViYXNlLXRvb2xzQGxhdGVzdCIsIm1jcCJdfQ%3D%3D>) (opens Cursor)

Or add it by hand to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project):

`mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "firebase": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "firebase-tools@latest",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### VS Code

[Install in VS Code](<https://vscode.dev/redirect/mcp/install?name=firebase&config=%7B%22type%22%3A%22stdio%22%2C%22command%22%3A%22npx%22%2C%22args%22%3A%5B%22-y%22%2C%22firebase-tools%40latest%22%2C%22mcp%22%5D%7D>) (opens VS Code)

Or from a terminal:

```bash
code --add-mcp '{"name":"firebase","type":"stdio","command":"npx","args":["-y","firebase-tools@latest","mcp"]}'
```

Or commit it to the repo in `.vscode/mcp.json`:

`.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "firebase": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "firebase-tools@latest",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### Devin Desktop

1. Add it to `~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json` (macOS and Linux) or `%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json` (Windows):

`mcp_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "firebase": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "firebase-tools@latest",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

2. Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf.

### Codex

```bash
codex mcp add firebase -- npx -y firebase-tools@latest mcp
```

Or edit `~/.codex/config.toml` directly:

`config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.firebase]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "firebase-tools@latest", "mcp"]
```

Needs Node.js on your computer.

### Gemini CLI

```bash
gemini mcp add firebase npx -- -y firebase-tools@latest mcp
```

This adds it to the current project. Add `-s user` to use it everywhere.

### Any client

Most clients that start local servers accept this shape:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "firebase": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "firebase-tools@latest",
        "mcp"
      ]
    }
  }
}
```

Zed puts servers under `context_servers` in its settings, with the same `command`, `args` and `env` fields.

Needs Node.js on your computer.
