> Generate speech, clone voices, and create images and videos with MiniMax models from your AI assistant.

- Listing: https://mcp.tc/i/minimax
- Connect: this is a local (stdio) server; install it on your machine (see Install). The listing link is a page, not an MCP endpoint.
- Type: local (stdio)
- Auth: API key
- Category: [AI & Machine Learning](https://mcp.tc/c/ai-ml)
- Vendor: MiniMax
- Homepage: <https://github.com/MiniMax-AI/MiniMax-MCP>
- Repository: <https://github.com/MiniMax-AI/MiniMax-MCP>
- Package: pypi `minimax-mcp`

## About

Connects an MCP client to the MiniMax APIs. You can convert text to speech with a chosen voice, list available voices, clone a voice from audio files, design a new voice from a text prompt, generate images from prompts, and generate videos and check on their status.

It runs locally over stdio as the minimax-mcp Python package, started with uvx. A MiniMax API key is required, along with the matching API host for your region (global or mainland China). Output files can be returned as URLs or downloaded to a local directory. Using the tools may incur costs on your MiniMax account.

## What it can do

- Convert text to audio with a selected voice
- List the voices available on your account
- Clone a voice from provided audio files
- Design a custom voice from a descriptive prompt
- Generate images from text prompts
- Generate videos from prompts and query task results

## Example prompts

- "Read this news summary aloud in a calm female voice."
- "Clone my voice from this audio file."
- "Generate a 6 second video of waves on a beach at sunset."
- "Create an image of a red bicycle leaning on a brick wall."

## Install

### Claude Code

1. Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport stdio minimax --env "MINIMAX_API_KEY=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>" --env "MINIMAX_API_HOST=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>" -- uvx minimax-mcp -y
```

2. Start Claude Code and type `/mcp`. **minimax** should show as connected.

Add `--scope user` to make it available in every project. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

### Claude Desktop

1. Open **Settings → Developer → Edit Config**. It opens `claude_desktop_config.json`. Add:

`claude_desktop_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "minimax": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "minimax-mcp",
        "-y"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MINIMAX_API_KEY": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>",
        "MINIMAX_API_HOST": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Save the file and restart Claude Desktop. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

Needs uv (Python) on your computer. The file lives in `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/` on macOS and `%APPDATA%\Claude\` on Windows.

### Cursor

[Add to Cursor](<https://cursor.com/install-mcp?name=minimax&config=eyJjb21tYW5kIjoidXZ4IiwiYXJncyI6WyJtaW5pbWF4LW1jcCIsIi15Il0sImVudiI6eyJNSU5JTUFYX0FQSV9LRVkiOiI8WU9VUl9NSU5JTUFYX0FQSV9LRVk%2BIiwiTUlOSU1BWF9BUElfSE9TVCI6IjxZT1VSX01JTklNQVhfQVBJX0hPU1Q%2BIn19>) (opens Cursor)

Or add it by hand to `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects) or `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project):

`mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "minimax": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "minimax-mcp",
        "-y"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MINIMAX_API_KEY": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>",
        "MINIMAX_API_HOST": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

### VS Code

Add it to `.vscode/mcp.json`. VS Code asks for the secret the first time and stores it securely:

`.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "minimax": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "minimax-mcp",
        "-y"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MINIMAX_API_KEY": "${input:minimax-api-key}",
        "MINIMAX_API_HOST": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>"
      }
    }
  },
  "inputs": [
    {
      "type": "promptString",
      "id": "minimax-api-key",
      "description": "MINIMAX_API_KEY",
      "password": true
    }
  ]
}
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer.

### Devin Desktop

1. Add it to `~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json` (macOS and Linux) or `%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json` (Windows):

`mcp_config.json`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "minimax": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "minimax-mcp",
        "-y"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MINIMAX_API_KEY": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>",
        "MINIMAX_API_HOST": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

2. Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf.

### Codex

```bash
codex mcp add minimax --env "MINIMAX_API_KEY=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>" --env "MINIMAX_API_HOST=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>" -- uvx minimax-mcp -y
```

Or edit `~/.codex/config.toml` directly:

`config.toml`:

```toml
[mcp_servers.minimax]
command = "uvx"
args = ["minimax-mcp", "-y"]
env = { MINIMAX_API_KEY = "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>", MINIMAX_API_HOST = "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>" }
```

Needs uv (Python) on your computer. Replace the placeholders with your own values.

### Gemini CLI

```bash
gemini mcp add -e "MINIMAX_API_KEY=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>" -e "MINIMAX_API_HOST=<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>" minimax uvx -- minimax-mcp -y
```

This adds it to the current project. Add `-s user` to use it everywhere.

### Any client

Most clients that start local servers accept this shape:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "minimax": {
      "command": "uvx",
      "args": [
        "minimax-mcp",
        "-y"
      ],
      "env": {
        "MINIMAX_API_KEY": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_KEY>",
        "MINIMAX_API_HOST": "<YOUR_MINIMAX_API_HOST>"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Zed puts servers under `context_servers` in its settings, with the same `command`, `args` and `env` fields.

Needs uv (Python) on your computer. Replace the placeholders with your own values.
