mcp.tc/i/mcp-toolboxDescripción
MCP Toolbox for Databases is an open source server that connects AI agents and IDEs to databases. Prebuilt tools cover data exploration such as listing tables and running SQL. Supported sources include PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, SQLite, BigQuery, AlloyDB, Spanner, Firestore, Oracle, MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse and more. A tools.yaml file lets you define custom tools with structured queries.
It runs locally over stdio, for example with npx -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdio. A Docker image and binaries are also available. The server itself needs no sign-in, but you set the connection environment variables for your chosen database.
Qué puedes hacer
- Query databases in plain language through prebuilt tools
- List tables and explore schemas
- Run SQL statements against the connected database
- Choose a prebuilt config per database with the --prebuilt flag
- Define custom tools and sources in a tools.yaml file
- Connect to Google Cloud and third-party databases
Herramientas

Claude Code
- Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:
claude mcp add --transport stdio mcp-toolbox -- npx -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdio- Start Claude Code and type
/mcp. mcp-toolbox should show as connected.
Add --scope user to make it available in every project.
Claude Desktop
- Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config. It opens
claude_desktop_config.json. Add:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-toolbox": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@toolbox-sdk/server",
"--prebuilt=postgres",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}- Save the file and restart Claude Desktop.
Needs Node.js on your computer. The file lives in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/ on macOS and %APPDATA%\Claude\ on Windows.
Cursor
Añadir a Cursor (se abre en una pestaña nueva)
Or add it by hand to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (this project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-toolbox": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@toolbox-sdk/server",
"--prebuilt=postgres",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}Needs Node.js on your computer.
VS Code
Install in VS Code (se abre en una pestaña nueva)
Or from a terminal:
code --add-mcp '{"name":"mcp-toolbox","type":"stdio","command":"npx","args":["-y","@toolbox-sdk/server","--prebuilt=postgres","--stdio"]}'Or commit it to the repo in .vscode/mcp.json:
{
"servers": {
"mcp-toolbox": {
"type": "stdio",
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@toolbox-sdk/server",
"--prebuilt=postgres",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}Needs Node.js on your computer.
Devin Desktop
- Add it to
~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json(macOS and Linux) or%APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json(Windows):
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-toolbox": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@toolbox-sdk/server",
"--prebuilt=postgres",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}- Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade.
Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf.
Codex
codex mcp add mcp-toolbox -- npx -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdioOr edit ~/.codex/config.toml directly:
[mcp_servers.mcp-toolbox]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "@toolbox-sdk/server", "--prebuilt=postgres", "--stdio"]Needs Node.js on your computer.
Gemini CLI
gemini mcp add mcp-toolbox npx -- -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdioThis adds it to the current project. Add -s user to use it everywhere.
Any client
Most clients that start local servers accept this shape:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-toolbox": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@toolbox-sdk/server",
"--prebuilt=postgres",

Preguntas frecuentes
Can I paste mcp.tc/i/mcp-toolbox into my MCP client?
No. MCP Toolbox for Databases runs on your own computer, started by your client, so it has no web address to connect to. The quick link is the page to share; the install command is npx -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdio.
Does MCP Toolbox for Databases need an API key?
No. It doesn’t declare any keys or environment variables. It runs with your user account’s permissions, so check what its tools can reach.
Is MCP Toolbox for Databases a remote or a local server?
Local. Your client starts it as a process on your computer with npx -y @toolbox-sdk/server --prebuilt=postgres --stdio, which needs Node.js.
What can MCP Toolbox for Databases do?
You can query databases in plain language through prebuilt tools, list tables and explore schemas y run SQL statements against the connected database.
Which clients can use it?
Any client that starts local servers: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Devin Desktop, Codex, Gemini CLI, Zed and others. claude.ai and ChatGPT only connect to remote servers.
