About

Contract Lily applies code-based rules for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to facts you give. It checks deposit and holding deposit caps, tenancy notice periods, section 13 rent increase notices in England, statutory employment notice, statutory holiday and the UK minimum wage. It can also return links to a full review of a tenancy agreement or employment contract.

It runs as a hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint at https://api.contractlily.com/mcp. No sign-in or API key is needed. Results are general information, not legal advice.

Example prompts

  • My rent is £1,250 a month in Manchester and the agent wants a £1,600 deposit. Is that allowed?

  • My landlord in Leeds served a section 13 notice on 2 June raising rent from 1 July. Is it valid?

  • I've worked for my employer since March 2022. How much notice do they have to give me?

  • I'm 20 and paid £10.50 an hour. Is that the minimum wage?

Set up

Every client connects to api.contractlily.com. Pick yours; the page remembers your choice.

Claude Code

  1. Run this in a terminal, in your project folder:
claude mcp add --transport http contract-lily https://api.contractlily.com/mcp
  1. Start Claude Code and type /mcp. contract-lily should show as connected.

Add --scope user to make it available in every project, not just this one.

Claude Desktop

  1. Open Customize → Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Contract Lily and paste this URL:
https://api.contractlily.com/mcp
  1. Click Add. Its tools appear in the chat’s tools menu.

Claude Desktop’s JSON config file only starts local servers. Remote servers go through Connectors, and connectors you add on claude.ai show up here too.

claude.ai

  1. Open the connector form on claude.ai. This button fills in the name and URL for you:
  1. Check that the URL reads https://api.contractlily.com/mcp and click Add.
  2. Turn it on in a chat from the tools menu.

Free plans allow one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors.

ChatGPT

  1. On chatgpt.com, go to Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter a name for the server.
  3. Under Connection, paste https://api.contractlily.com/mcp as the server URL, then for authentication choose No authentication.
  4. Check I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.

Whether you can add a custom MCP server depends on your ChatGPT plan and your workspace permissions (in Business workspaces, admins and owners can).

Cursor

Or add it by hand to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (this project):

mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "contract-lily": {
      "url": "https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

VS Code

Or from a terminal:

code --add-mcp '{"name":"contract-lily","type":"http","url":"https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"}'

Or commit it to the repo in .vscode/mcp.json:

.vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "contract-lily": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Devin Desktop

  1. Add it to ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json (macOS and Linux) or %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json (Windows):
mcp_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "contract-lily": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}
  1. Refresh the MCP server list in Cascade.

Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf. It reads serverUrl (or url) for remote servers.

Codex

codex mcp add contract-lily --url https://api.contractlily.com/mcp

Or edit ~/.codex/config.toml directly:

config.toml
[mcp_servers.contract-lily]
url = "https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"

Gemini CLI

gemini mcp add --transport http contract-lily https://api.contractlily.com/mcp

This adds it to the current project. Add -s user to use it everywhere.

Any client

Most clients accept this shape. Some name the URL field differently: serverUrl in Devin Desktop, httpUrl in Gemini CLI’s settings file.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "contract-lily": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.contractlily.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Zed puts servers under context_servers in its settings. Cline needs "type": "streamableHttp", or it assumes SSE.

Client only starts local servers? Bridge it with npx -y mcp-remote https://api.contractlily.com/mcp.

Embed

Show Contract Lily in a README or on your site. Each embed links to this page, uses the server’s own URL, and sets no cookies. How embeds work

The card, the iframe and the JSON are in English. Add ?lang=it, fr, de or es to their address for another language.

HTML
<a href="https://mcp.tc/i/contract-lily"><img src="https://mcp.tc/i/contract-lily/badge.svg" alt="Contract Lily on mcp.tc" height="20"></a>

It follows the reader’s light or dark mode. Add ?theme=light or ?theme=dark to fix it, or ?style=compact to show the mark without the word.

Website card

HTML
<script src="https://mcp.tc/w/contract-lily.js" async></script>

The card appears where the tag is. Add data-theme="dark" or data-size="compact" to the tag to change it. The file holds everything it needs, so it makes no other requests and sets no cookies.

iframe

HTML
<iframe src="https://mcp.tc/embed/contract-lily" title="Contract Lily on mcp.tc" width="420" height="200" loading="lazy" allow="clipboard-write" style="border:0;border-radius:8px;max-width:100%"></iframe>

Use it on pages that don’t allow scripts. Add ?theme=light or ?theme=dark to the address to fix the colors.

JSON

AI prompt

Paste this into an AI coding assistant, such as Claude Code or Cursor, and it adds the Contract Lily card to your site.

Markdown
Add the mcp.tc card for Contract Lily, an MCP server, to my website. It is one static script: no build step, no package to install, no cookies.

Put this tag where the card should appear. The card renders right before it:

```html
<script src="https://mcp.tc/w/contract-lily.js" async></script>
```

To show the card somewhere else, put this placeholder there and load the same script once, for example before `</body>`. Keep the link inside: visitors without JavaScript see it.

```html
<div data-mcptc="contract-lily"><a href="https://mcp.tc/i/contract-lily">Contract Lily on mcp.tc</a></div>
```

Options:
- `data-theme="light"` or `"dark"` on the tag or the placeholder fixes the colors. Without it, the card follows the visitor’s light or dark mode.
- `data-size="compact"` gives a smaller card without the tagline.
- The CSS variable `--mcptc-max-width` on the placeholder or a parent sets the width (default `520px`).
- `?lang=` on the script URL sets the card’s language: `en`, `it`, `fr`, `de` or `es`.

If the site has a Content Security Policy, allow `script-src https://mcp.tc` and `img-src data:` (the icon is inline).

For a README or other Markdown docs, use the badge instead:

```markdown
[![Contract Lily on mcp.tc](https://mcp.tc/i/contract-lily/badge.svg)](https://mcp.tc/i/contract-lily)
```

    • answer_contract_review_questionsWrites

      Give a review the facts it asked for when its status was needs-answers, each under the key of its question, then carry on waiting for the review. Dates are YYYY-MM-DD, and territory is where the home is, or where the user mainly works: GB-ENG for England, GB-WLS for Wales, GB-SCT for Scotland or GB-NIR for Northern Ireland. Use only what the user says: never guess an answer.

    • delete_contract_reviewCan delete

      Erase a review for good: the document, its text, the answers and the report. Use it when the user asks. Otherwise a review is erased 30 days after it starts.

    • get_contract_reviewRead-only

      See how a review is going, waiting up to about 25 seconds for news. Keep calling it while the status is checking or reviewing. When finished, it gives the verdict, each finding's title and severity, and a link to the full PDF to give the user. When the status is needs-answers, ask the user its questions and call answer_contract_review_questions.

    • start_contract_reviewWrites

      Send a whole UK tenancy agreement or employment document to Contract Lily for a full review, with the user's agreement to send it. Pass the attached file, or else the document's complete text, word for word; a summary or excerpt gives a wrong review. It returns a reviewId for get_contract_review. The review reads the document against UK law and returns a verdict, findings and a PDF report. Results are recommendations, not legal advice.

    Server instructions

    Before

    Contract Lily reviews UK residential tenancy agreements, and its rules also cover UK employment basics. These tools apply Contract Lily's own code-based rules for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to the facts the user gives, the same rules its reviews use. Ask the user for any fact a tool needs rather than guessing it. Results are general information, not legal advice: pass on the law each result names, and the page it links, so the user can read more. When the user has a tenancy agreement they want checked, or a tenancy answer turns on clauses these tools cannot see, offer get_tenancy_agreement_review_link: it gives the link to a full review of the tenancy agreement. When the user has an employment contract, offer letter or written statement they want checked, or an employment answer turns on clauses these tools cannot see, offer get_employment_contract_review_link: it says whether employment reviews are open and gives the link.

Review results hold only Contract Lily's own wording. If you cannot send a document's complete text, offer the link instead.

    • check_northern_ireland_rent_increase_noticeRead-only

      Check a landlord's rent increase notice, given from 1 April 2025, for a private tenancy in Northern Ireland other than a controlled tenancy (do not use it for a controlled tenancy, which has different rules): whether it is in writing, whether the new rent starts at least three months after the notice is given, and whether it comes at least 12 months after the tenancy began and the last increase; and when the new rent can start. Northern Ireland only; it does not judge whether the new rent is fair.

    • check_welsh_rent_increase_noticeRead-only

      Check a landlord's notice of a new rent for a periodic standard occupation contract in Wales: whether the new rent starts at least two months after the notice is given, whether it comes at least a year after the last increase, and whether it is on form RHW12; and the earliest the new rent can start. Wales only; it does not judge whether the new rent is fair.

FAQ

Can I paste mcp.tc/i/contract-lily into my MCP client?

No. mcp.tc links are pages, not server addresses. Connect with https://api.contractlily.com/mcp, so your client talks to Contract Lily directly. The quick link is for sharing: it opens this page, with setup steps for every client.

Does Contract Lily need an API key or a sign-in?

No. Contract Lily doesn’t ask for an account or key.

Is Contract Lily a remote or a local server?

Remote. Contract Lily hosts it at https://api.contractlily.com/mcp, and it speaks Streamable HTTP. There’s nothing to install.

What can Contract Lily do?

It has 15 tools, including check_deposit_cap, check_notice_period and check_rent_increase_notice. You can work out tenancy and holding deposit caps by UK nation, find the minimum notice to end a periodic tenancy and validate section 13 rent increase notices in England.

Which clients can use it?

Any client that supports remote MCP servers: Claude Code, Claude Desktop, claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Devin Desktop, Codex, Gemini CLI, Zed and others. The setup steps cover each one.

Does mcp.tc track changes to Contract Lily?

Yes. Contract Lily’s History tab shows each change we find to its tools, down to descriptions and parameters, plus new versions and edits by its owner. Follow the listing to get an email when it changes.

Who wrote this page?

mcp.tc’s robot read Contract Lily’s own metadata (its MCP handshake, tool list and public pages), and an AI model drafted the text from it. A person reviews anything the checks can’t confirm. The text can still be wrong, so if you spot a mistake, use Report this listing on this page.

mcp.tc isn’t affiliated with Contract Lily. This page was built from Contract Lily’s public metadata, last checked on 6 Nov 2026, and an AI model wrote the description, so it can be wrong. Names and marks belong to their owners. Something off? Report this listing.
